A new reality television show is set to begin filming this summer on Midwood Street. The show, a real life version of Welcome Back Kotter, will group together a number of Brooklyn icons in one house where they will compete for cash. The cast will include Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, music mogul Jay Z, literary luminary Paul Auster, humorist John Hodgman, Russian billionaire and Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov, actress Rosie Perez, and original show star Gabe Kaplan.
“I’ve always thought Brooklyn should have more reality shows,” said Markowitz. “I’m a little nervous though about sharing a room with Jay Z. I’ve heard he snores.”
Community members were less than excited about the summer shoot after some recent promotional filming.
“They brought in extras to play local residents,” fumed longtime native Sofia Proll. “They all looked like they were out of My Cousin Vinny.”
Markowitz defended the Hollywood sleight of hand. “This is bringing new jobs to Brooklyn. If this is a success maybe my next job can be movies.”
