Goslings and their geese guardians were once a common sight during the summer in Prospect Park. It was a year ago today that visitors began to notice a distinct absence. Word soon spread that government workers had quietly rounded up almost 400 of the birds and killed them in the name of aviation safety.

A year later, it still isn’t clear whether the program has had any noticeable impact on NYC’s overall geese population, but few remain in the park. PLOG shot the above video about six weeks before the first culling. No further action is planned here but the program continues around the city.
